Be the Backup Plan

The biggest part of the wedding process is securing great vendors to execute a memorable, personal, gorgeous day for the couple. Once your vendors are secured, the biggest questions are answered, and we get into the true fun of wedding planning.

As a planner, we need to trust our vendors, and our vendors need to trust us. When clients come in with vendors that they want to use, I am beyond thrilled to add a new contact to my list and start working with someone new!

Many clients are particular with the officiant that they use – this is when they can get very personal, and pick someone they are close with, maybe a religious officiant that knows them, or a style that they really resonate with. It is a largely overlooked part of the wedding day, but I would argue it’s one of the most important.

A client picked an officiant close to them, and they were very confident in their decision. On the big day, the bridal party was hiding in the back room while all guests were quickly arriving into the venue. As guests continued to fill the seats, we quickly understood that the officiant was missing! The clock was ticking, yet no officiant to be seen. What’s a planner to do?

Luckily, the officiant showed up a few minutes after the official ceremony start time!

Lesson Learned: become an ordained minister so that if this ever happens again, I can safely say there is a solid backup plan to make sure the couple is married on their actual wedding day! Now, I am an ordained minister in the USA and New York City to avoid any future mishap. Happy clients, happy life.
